Rhode Island Sea Grant and the University of Rhode Island Coastal Resources Center are pleased to announce a FREE professional aquaculture training course beginning this January.

This course will provide intermediate-level training in aquaculture farming business skills and practice for participants who already possess basic ocean farming knowledge and skills.

Professional Aquaculture Training: Beyond the Basics for Businesses and Practitioners

Tuesday evenings, 6 – 7:30 p.m. (Eastern Time)
January 21 – May 1, 2025
No classes the week of February 17 and April 14
University of Rhode Island Bay Campus (in person, optional)

This 12-week course in aquaculture principles and industry approaches is a non-matriculating course for professionals and is offered in a hybrid (your choice of in-person, online, or a combination of both) format. Please note, there is limited seating available for the in-person option, so register now if you would like to attend in person. 

Course materials will be posted online prior to each weekly class. An optional, once-weekly “office hours” session, in-person and online, will also be offered on Thursdays from 6 – 7 p.m.

Course content applies a practical and industry-vetted approach to workplace aquaculture issues, with weekly topics that include: “Aquaculture Business 201: Economics of Shellfish Farming,” “Staying Healthy in Aquaculture,” and “Women and Minorities in Aquaculture.”  The course is free and open to all, but participants are strongly encouraged to have already completed a basic or initial aquaculture farming training course prior to enrolling.
