OCEAN SAMP EVALUATION

Section 1130 of the Ocean SAMP, Applying Adaptive Management to Implement the Ocean SAMP, calls for periodic assessment and evaluation of the Ocean SAMP to ensure that the goals and principles of the process are being achieved. The first assessment evaluates the progress of the Ocean SAMP since the start of the project in 2008 toward each of the plan's goals which include:

  • Foster a properly functioning ecosystem that is both ecologically sound and economically beneficial
  • Promote and enhance existing uses
  • Encourage marine-based economic development that meets the aspirations of local communities and is consistent with and complementary to the state’s overall economic development, social, and environmental needs and goals
  • Build a framework for coordinated decision making between state and federal management agencies
