Warming Seas and the Ocean State | June 22

June 22, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Aerial view of the Endeavor at the URI Bay Campus

The public is invited to the kick-off talk in a new discussion series continuing on every third Thursday of the month

Thursday, June 22, 2017
7:00-8:00 p.m.
GSO Coastal Institute Auditorium
220 S Ferry Rd, Narragansett, RI

Join us for an interactive discussion of ocean science, the first in a monthly public series led by graduate students at the University of Rhode Island Graduate School of Oceanography. This first seminar, entitled “Warming Seas and the Ocean State,” will focus on the ocean’s role in our climate system. We will discuss how physical processes are responding to warming sea surface temperatures and the instruments oceanographers use to measure these changes. Keeping the physics in mind, the latter portion of the program will focus on the effects of warming on coastal ecosystems close to home, illustrating how local species are being impacted by global climate change and what it means for Rhode Island fisheries. Light refreshments will be provided. All ages are welcome!
