The URI Sustainable Seafood Initiative is a collaborative between the Rhode Island Sea Grant Program and the University of Rhode Island’s College of Environment and Life Sciences. 

The purpose of the URI Sustainable Seafood Initiative is to provide an independent, third-party, objective source of information and research on the sustainable seafood movement, its functioning, and its effectiveness.

The director of the URI Sustainable Seafood Initiative is Dr. Cathy A. Roheim, professor in the URI Department of Environmental and Natural Resource Economics.  Dr. Roheim has conducted research on seafood marketing and trade for the past 19 years, and is well known for her research on the effects of the sustainable seafood movement on seafood markets and international seafood trade.
