An international symposium on haddock (Melanogrammus aeglefinus) is being organized by the University of New Hampshire together with other collaborating institutions. This two-day symposium will include presentations and discussions on harvesting technologies, biological aspects, and resource management issues concerning haddock and haddock fisheries on both sides of the Atlantic. The symposium will cover the following themes/topic areas:

  • Historical and contemporary haddock fisheries
  • Biology, migration, behavior, stock structure, and resource assessment
  • Gear designs and harvesting methods targeting haddock
  • Techniques to reduce haddock bycatch and discards in other fisheries
  • Fishery management approaches and challenges
  • Future directions for science, management, and harvesting technologies
