Welcome to the new Rhode Island Sea Grant newsletter, our way of sharing our latest developments with you. This past year has been a dynamic one for Rhode Island Sea Grant. In October, we renamed our annual science symposium the Ronald C. Baird Sea Grant Science Symposium in honor of the retired director of the National Sea Grant College Program in recognition of his many contributions to Sea Grant nationally and to Rhode Island Sea Grant specifically. We also issued a request for proposals for the 2008-2010 funding period, hosting our traditional Omnibus Research RfP, as well as a call for regional research proposals and two targeted research programs, one focused on collaborative fisheries research and one focused on research into coastal marine legal, law and policy issues. We look forward to a variety of innovative and exciting research in the next two years.
