Mehaffey receives Marine Affairs Achievement Award
This spring, Jennifer Mehaffey ‘07 was awarded the Marine Affairs Achievement Award for 2007 by the Roger Williams University (RWU) Marine Affairs Institute.  The award is given to a graduating student who has been exemplary in the study and advancement of marine policy and law.  Upon her arrival at law school, Jen quickly became a leader in her class, serving as president of the Maritime Law Society, practicing in the Community Justice Clinic, and working toward her J.D. and Masters of Marine Affairs degrees. As a Sea Grant Law Fellow, Jennifer conducted research with the city of Warwick and the R.I. Coastal Resources Management Council on harbor management issues and continues her work with the agency on aquatic nuisance species issues.  Jen has been selected as a 2008 recipient of the prestigious one-year Knauss Marine Policy Fellowship in Washington, D.C., starting in January.

RWU joins the Environmental Business Council of New England
RWU School of Law recently became a member of the Environmental Business Council (EBC), which conducts meetings and programs for business professionals to network and learn about the challenges affecting environmental business in New England.  The Rhode Island chapter provides speakers and topics of interest to member companies both within and outside of Rhode Island including member-only regulatory updates, networking events, workshops, and professional briefing at breakfast and lunch meetings.  Staff of the Marine Affairs Institute and RWU faculty can avail themselves of EBC services including access to member-only programs and information on the cutting edge of environmental and energy technologies, management, and regulatory developments, as well as access to a network of environmental businesses, including law firms, and increased visibility in the environmental community in New England.
