Rescheduled to March 16

Since many fishing regulations and restrictions hinge on how many fish there are in the sea, determining those numbers is as important as it is controversial. Join us on March 2, 2006, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Corless Auditorium at the University of Rhode Island (URI) Graduate School of Oceanography Narragansett Bay Campus, where Steven Cadrin of the National Marine Fisheries Service will present tools for assessing fish stocks.

The goals of the workshop are:

  • To provide an understanding of the fundamentals of commercial fisheries science
  • To introduce the basic tools of analysis used in stock assessments and to explain how stock surveys are conducted
  • To familiarize participants with the various models used in stock assessments

This workshop is the third in a series on fisheries management issues partially funded by the R.I. Department of Environmental Management and Rhode Island Sea Grant. For more information, contact Laura Skrobe, Rhode Island Sea Grant Sustainable Fisheries Extension Specialist, at (401) 874-9360.
