Fisheries Leadership Training

The Sea Grant Fisheries Extension Program at the University of Rhode Island is working with the R.I. Department of Environmental Management (RIDEM) to offer a Fisheries Management Leadership Training Program for Rhode Island. The goal of this training program is to develop and strengthen the skills of Rhode Island fisheries managers. The objectives of these workshops are to:

  1. Transfer of appropriate information
  2. Development of a co-management team
  3. Reduce conflicts among users
  4. Produce healthy stocks

The joint steering committee designing this course is composed of representatives from RIDEM fisheries staff, Rhode Island Marine Fisheries Council, New England Fisheries Management Council, Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC), commercial and recreational industry leaders, and environmental leaders.
