Metro Bay Special Area Management Plan

Rhode Island Sea Grant is working in coordination with Cranston, East Providence, Pawtucket, and Providence to make Narragansett Bay's largest urban waterfront a more appealing place to live and work by:

  • Improving the economic, social, and environmental resources of the working waterfront
  • Attracting world-class developers by making permitting more predictable and efficient
  • Providing recreational opportunities and public access to the water

Rhode Island Sea Grant and the Rhode Island Coastal Resources Management Council have supported these efforts through development of the Metro Bay Special Area Management Plan (SAMP). SAMPs refine the state coastal program by taking a regional integrated approach in setting coastal management goals and policies. SAMPs are federally recognized upon state approval.
