Climate Change and Flood Awareness

Some of the impacts we are seeing from climate change include increased rainfall and storm intensity leading to flooding. Rhode Island Sea Grant has a long history of working with communities and businesses to minimize impacts of coastal and riverine flooding.

The Rhode Island Flood Awareness and Climate Change Task Force (FACCT) has come together to find common solutions to the social and economic threats posed to coastal communities as a resultĀ  of climate change and flooding. The group has worked together to link outreach services and offer trainings, such as workshops on coastal construction and retrofitting flood-prone structures, to engineers, architects, building officials, and others involved in these challenges throughout the state.

FACCT members are the R.I. Emergency Management Agency, The R.I. Flood Managers Association, the R.I. Building Code Commission, the R.I. Coastal Resources Management Council, Rhode Island Sea Grant, and the University of Rhode Island Coastal Resources Center. Other agencies are welcome to join.
