Smart Growth Ambassadors
Rhode Island Sea Grant is training local leaders through a Smart Growth Ambassadors project on Aquidneck Island. The project identifies citizens who have the potential to be advocates for responsible land-use planning island-wide. Program participants learn smart growth and leadership skills through a pilot project: developing an island-wide system of connected recreation routes.
Metro Bay SAMP Hazard Resilience
Rhode Island Sea Grant is assisting the cities of Cranston, East Providence, Pawtucket, and Providence to manage development and redevelopment in their floodplains along northern Narragansett Bay. This hazard mitigation project is part of a larger effort by the R.I. Coastal Resources Management Council to develop a regulatory plan for the region, dubbed the Metro Bay. This Metro Bay Special Area Management Plan (SAMP) will set coastal management goals and policies for the area.
