The search interface is a bit unusual so it is worth reading the Help and Tips sections. FloodSmart.gov: This site of the National Flood Insurance Program helps visitors determine their flood risk, estimate their flood premiums, find an agent, and more. HazNet: A U.S.-oriented Sea Grant Natural Hazards Theme Team website, mainly consisting of brief descriptions of Sea Grant related projects and links to other sites. The Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS): The nonprofit association's goal is to reduce the social and economic effects of natural disasters and other property losses by conducting research and advocating improved construction, maintenance and preparation practices. Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management On-Line Hurricane Preparedness Kit: This site offers a host of links to information on protecting yourself, your family, your home, your pets, and your boat, as well as to general hurricane information and tracking sites. The Natural Hazards Center of the University of Colorado at Boulder: A University of Colorado at Boulder website, which aims to communicate knowledge on hazards mitigation and disaster preparedness, response, and recovery. NOAA Coastal Storms Program: This website offers tools all communities can use to lessen the impacts of coastal storms. nowCOAST: A GIS Mapping Portal to Real-Time Environmental Observations and NOAA Forecasts. Rhode Island Organizations The Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency (RIEMA): The agency has taken important steps to implement its philosophy that hazard mitigation is the "cornerstone of emergency management." RIEMAs Performance Partnership and Cooperative Agreement with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) outlines a progressive approach to developing a statewide hazard mitigation RI Emergency Management Advisory Council: Provides Rhode Island communities with technical assistance on hazard mitigation strategies. The committee has initiated identification of state resources and properties that are at risk, and begun an analysis of existing hazard mitigation actions and policies throughout the state. Rhode Island's Coastal Resources Management Program: This state agency adopted statewide regulations that cover all development along the shore. The "Red Book" Regulations provide comprehensive policies and regulations, many of which reflect a multi-hazard management approach.
