Greenwich Bay's
Largest Plankton

The jellyfish is Greenwich Bay's largest plankton.

The largest jellyfish seen in Greenwich Bay is the lion's mane jellyfish, which has been reported to reach a diameter of 8 feet in the Gulf of Maine.

Don't worry! It doesn't get nearly this big in Greenwich Bay.
It should be avoided, though, as it can give you an unpleasant-feeling sting.

You may also see the moon jelly, whose sting is not strong enough for you to even feel it.

Another larger plankton (a few inches long), often mistaken for a jellyfish, is the comb jelly. The comb jelly is a ctenophore and has no stinging cells at all.
